A BBQ with Zombies

I love spending time with my wife, family and friends. So any time that I can spend time with everyone in the same weekend I am a happy person. A little while back, Heidi and I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with our friends at Cory and Sus's house in Ballard. We are so lucky to have such amazing and wonderful friends!!! It is always fun to see everyone and even though we do not get to see each other as much as we would like, it seems like we just pick up right where we left off the last time. This time was a little different in that the BBQ was "crashed " by Zombies. Not really but there were some friends that participated in the Fremont Zombie "Fest" (I don't what they called it). There were over 3,000 people dressed as Zombies storming Fremont and they attempted to break the record for the largest Thriller Dance. Here are some photos from the BBQ and the entire set can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/h2ohta/sets/72157621889503900/

"Special" Places of the World

Everyone has their special places in this world. Mine seem to be places that have a warm and inviting energy, delicious food and drink and beautiful beaches. Of course, there are other factors that make a place "special", but in thinking about my special places these seem to be pretty common traits.
I used to try and surf. I am sure that I will surf again but I find it is one of those sports that you have to do all of the time in order to feel comfortable. What I mean is that, similar to skateboarding, it is about feel and timing which only come with repetition and experience. So until I have the opportunity to devote more time than "a day or two here and there", I will be on shore photographing real surfers instead of getting my ass kicked my the ocean.

Here are some surfers gettin' some in Sayulita. This is a "special" place with an amazing energy and atmosphere. If you have a chance to go to Sayulita, GO!!!!

A walk in the woods

Heidi and I took Kalea for a walk on Sunday in the Tumwater Canyon near Leavenworth, WA. I have been in self-reflection mode lately and really trying to develop a clear vision of life. So I wanted to look at, photograph and edit things differently. I was trying to isolate the subject and understand "its place". As always, enjoy the photos and I hope all is well and you are enjoying life!!!

New "Old" edits....

I was revisiting some of the photos from Eben and Erin's wedding and decided to play with some editing. I wanted to create a timeless vintage look to the photos as their ceremony had the feeling of "time standin still" and we were lucky enough to share and capture that moment with them. I like revisiting photos to see how my vision and editing style have changed. I hope you enjoy the photos.

What are we here for?

This is a question that I ask myself all of the time. What am I here for and what is my purpose in life? There has to be more to life than sitting in a cubicle waiting for the clock to stirke 5:00 so I can return to living life. There has to be more to life than the 9-5 or the 40 hour work week. There has to be more than living someone elses idea of what life should be. I think that I am meant to share with others. What I am meant to share is becoming more and more clear. I am meant to share myself through my photography. I do not shoot photographs because I want to make money, although I did just start Chris Ohta Photography so you should book me and pay me to shoot something for you, but rather I shoot beause it makes me happy and gives me a sense of pride. This is what I am here for. This is what I am meant to do in life.

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
I think I just figured it out at 34 years old...
When you get home from work do you feel good about yourself as a person?
I want to...that is why I am going to follw my passion

A simple way of life, a loving culture based around family (not money), amazing people and scenery, and I did not see a single cubicle...Do you know where this is? (if we leave the "rat-race" you might find us here)

Campbell Family 6/10/2009

The Campbell Family have to be some of the coolest and most fun people we have met. You can tell that they love one another very much. We kept the group shots to a minimum opting for lifestyle portraits which we love to shoot. We had so much fun with them and look forward to the next session. The entire set can be seen at www.chrisohta.zenfolio.com
